Management of Aquatic Invasive Species
Management of Aquatic Invasive Species
Invasive non-indigenous species (ENI) are one of the main causes of biodiversity loss, also causing very relevant social and economic impacts. For this reason, this theme has been the target of growing interest on the part of researchers, policy makers, and also stakeholders involved in the affected economic activities. The implementation of measures to prevent new introductions, minimize impacts and monitor the number and abundance of ENI has been subject to European regulations, such as Regulation No.1143/2014, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (DQEM) and the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The objective of this training is to train trainees in the use of tools for the identification, assessment, monitoring and management of ENI in Portuguese aquatic systems.
