The Doctorate in History and Culture of Religions offers advanced scientific training in the domain of the issues that define the great historical religions and that determined both the East/West dialogue and the process of formation of the matrix of medieval, modern and contemporary European cultures. This course is organized in six semesters (180 ECTS). The doctoral course lasts for four semesters (120 ECTS). under the guidance of one or more teachers (60 ECTS).
Taught by a specialized and internationally recognized faculty, it allows a close relationship with the research carried out in particular at the Center for History of the University of Lisbon (CHUL), but also at the Center for Studies of Religious History (CEHR) of the Catholic University of Portugal in Centers for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH) of the University of Coimbra and Scientific and Cultural Studies of Macau (CCCM).
This course aims at developing professional historians in the areas of History and Culture of the Religions. The goal is to guide the students to the advanced research of the problems that define the great historical religions and that determine the dialogue between the Eastern and the Western Cultures, as well as the problems of the construction of the matrix/the basis of the medieval, modern and contemporary European cultures. This course also aims at filling a national gap in the area of historiography about History and Culture of the Religions, thus resorting to the human and scientific capital available at a great level at the University of Lisbon.
