Offered jointly by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, it covers four fundamental areas and their intersections: Anthropology, History, Linguistics and Literature. The Master in Brazilian Studies provides a dynamic integration between the humanities and the social sciences, allowing, simultaneously, a transversal specialization in the scope of Brazilian Studies and a pre-specialization in each of the areas involved.

Objectives

The Master in Brazilian Studies is a transversal program, hosted and created in joint collaboration by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and by the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. It is the result of a common awareness of the interrelations and proximities in the research conducted on Brazil in different areas and institutions of the University of Lisbon. It is a nationally innovative and interdisciplinary 2nd Cycle studies program, attractive to students who take an interest on all aspects of Brazilian culture, with special focus on four areas of research: Anthropology, History, Linguistics and Literature. Its main aim is to foster the dynamical integration between Humanities and Social sciences, offering, at the same time, a interdisciplinary specialization in Brazilian studies and a preliminary specialization in each of the four areas at stake.

Career prospects
It allows, at the same time, a transversal specialization within the scope of Brazilian Studies and a pre-specialization in each of the areas involved.

National Admission Exams
The Director of the course rece ives the applications, checks if they are in accordance to the law and analyses the candidates’ curriculums as well as their motivation letters. In the interview (that can be either face to face or through skype), the Director assesses candidates’ motivation and the suitability of their profile to the expected formation. The list of the accepted and excluded candidates is then analysed by the Scientific Committee of the Course. The specific criteria of selection and hierarchy of the candidates are: the classification of the degree or legal equivalent; the curriculum vitae; the motivation letter; and the interview. Regarding specific conditions of admission, there is not a minimal degree grade, and there is no restrictions to the areas in which the degree was obtained. In this way we respect the multidisciplinary structure of the curricular program. We have also been able to accommodate all candidates that were positively evaluated.
