This course provides concepts, techniques, theories and problems characteristic of central areas of Philosophy, such as the History of Philosophy, Ethics and Political Philosophy, Epistemology and Metaphysics, Logic and the Philosophy of Language. The course values basic research skills, which encourage familiarization with the developments of discussion in those areas and the development of expository skills.

Objectives

As a specialisation, the objective of this programme is for students to develop skills in the various branches of philosophical knowledge, complementing competencies they have acquired in the 1st cycle and enhancing their ability to carry out research autonomously. The skills acquired in the study plan’s CUs are complemented with 2 Research Seminars that take place in group sessions within a previously established schedule, at the same time that students write their dissertation, under supervision. This 2nd cycle aims to integrate acquired knowledge within a personal and critical perspective, promoting argumentation and the discussion of ideas and research practices that are essential to the elaboration of an original dissertation. For graduates from other scientific fields, our programme offers rigorous perspectives that allow students to reframe their basic studies within deeper levels of reasoning, better preparing them for writing their dissertations.
