The Master in Tourism and Communication is a joint programme of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) and the Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies (ESHTE) and has the collaboration of the School of Media.

Tourism is today one of the most relevant pillars of the world and national economy and an activity with growing social value and with various impacts on the territory. The Master in Tourism and Communication is a unique 2nd cycle course in the country, focusing on the various aspects of communication in tourism.
Classes are taught in Portuguese and English.

Objectives 

The degree offers a multidisciplinary training aimed at developing knowledge about the functioning of tourism as a sector of activities related to travel and visitation, critically understanding its relationships with territories, societies, cultures and various forms of discourse, and at the same time explore and perfect communication skills related to tourism products and destinations.

The course has the following specific objectives:

Understand, holistically, the structural aspects of tourism and its functioning as a system;
Know new business models and processes and emerging trends on the demand side;
Identify tourism resources;
Critically discuss the impacts of tourism on ecosystems, space occupation and cultures;
Critically analyse images and discourses about destinations and their cultures;
Apply the theories of tourism marketing;
Apply communication techniques in tourism;
Present and interpret heritage in a touristic context;
Develop, in an autonomous and reflective way, research and proposals for intervention in these domains.

Career prospects 
The Master in Tourism and Communication provides several professional opportunities related to tourism, either in private entities (such as companies and institutions in the field of tourism, including teaching), or public (such as local administration and educational and research institutions).
National Admission Exams 
Candidates holding a degree w ith 180ECTS (3 academic years) may apply to this study programme. Pursusant to DL 74/2006 Clause 17 d), candidates "holding an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, acknowledged by the statutorily scientific organ of the higher education establishment as meeting the admission criteria" may also apply. Minimum English requirement for application: B2
