The Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ), with its associated Research Units (CeFEMA, CERENA and CQE), offers the doctoral program in Chemistry, a flexible program that allows students to select curricular units adapted to their training and their research interests. individual investigations.
DEQ's doctoral program in Chemistry, by providing vibrant interdisciplinary research, offers comprehensive, modern and autonomy-oriented advanced training in the various areas of this exciting science, from theoretical to experimental methodologies and from fundamental to applied methodologies.

Objectives

DEQ’s PhD program in Chemistry offers advanced, solid, up-to-date, broad-spectrum training that prepares students for leadership positions in a career in chemistry or related fields, empowering them to plan, manage and develop independent research projects. This PhD program offers an interdisciplinary approach to grant an integrative view of knowledge in traditional and emerging areas, particularly in cutting-edge areas associated with the design, synthesis and characterization of new molecules, new products, and new materials.

Career prospects
DEQ’s doctors in Chemistry are particularly prepared to carry out scientific and technological R&D, as well as consulting entrepreneurship in several areas of Chemistry, and to adapt themselves to an ever changing technological world. They are key to the portuguese and european chemical industries, or in fundamental/applied research, in universities and research institutes
National Admission Exams
Having a background in Chemistry or Biochemistry is an excellent starting point for a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Nonetheless, candidates holding a science and/or technology certificate at the 2 nd cycle level who are attracted to Chemistry may be accepted, since the doctoral program can be tailored to fill potential gaps in their qualifications.
