Biological Engineering develops new solutions for scientific and technical problems in areas at the intersection of Biology with Engineering. The role of a biological engineer encompasses studying, designing and developing new biotechnology-based products and services with applications to the health and agri food sector and the environment, which are vital for the wellbeing of a modern, fair and sustainable society.
This degree has the following learning objectives:
• acquisition of knowledge and understanding of facts, concepts, processes and procedures inherent to a set of Fundamental Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology), of Engineering and of Specialty topics
(Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, Reaction and Process Engineering, Management, Informatics, Genetic Engineering and Cell and Tissue Engineering)
• integration and application of principles, methodologies and procedures specific to Fundamental Sciences, Engineering and Specialty topics to solve specific Biological Engineering problems
• development of transversal skills, including flexibility, innovation and entrepreneurship, ability to work by objectives, leadership and team management skills, ability to interact with peers and future employers and/or clients, ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally
• awareness of ethical, societal and environmental issues
