Industrial Engineering and Management blends engineering sciences with business administration in order to solve problems in companies and industries. The role of industrial engineers involves planning, optimizing and managing activities such as industrial output (its processes and operations), logistics and distribution; they can also work in areas like finance, marketing, information systems, strategy and organization of a company or taking up consultancy as a career.

Objectives 

The educational, scientific and technological training objectives leading to the degree of master’s in engineering and industrial management are the following:
• Develop skills to apply the knowledge and the ability to understand in order to solve problems and show a professional approach with regard to the work developed, integrating scientific, technological and managerial knowledge and dealing with complex issues;
• Develop solutions under the scope of the conception of productive systems (products and services) and organizational structures, subject to technological, economic, social and environmental constraints;
• Develop skills for a professional participation in a wide variety of industrial organizations;
• Develop skills to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in the performance of their duties;
• Develop entrepreneurial skills allowing for the creation of technology-based businesses.

Career prospects 
Técnico MSc graduates in Industrial Engineering and Management are prepared to hold strategic positions in industrial Small and Medium Sized Companies, in large economic groups and holdings, as well as in financial companies, and engage in activities such as: • Assessment of industrial projects; • Management and optimization of supply operations and chains; • Operations research; • Economic and financial audits; • Impact and innovation technological assessments; • Development of research and development strategies; • Consultancy and leadership, supervision and management functions; • Vocational training and teaching.
National Admission Exams 
Only the students that meet the requirements below may apply for a 2nd cycle of IST or to a 2nd cycle of na IST Integrated MSC Programme: - those who have concluded a 1st cycle degree programme, or a 1st cycle of an Integrated MSc Programme, which do not have scientific consistency with the 2nd cycle for which they apply; - those who hold a 1st cycle degree in the area of Science and Technology (except for the 2nd cycle in Architecture which presupposes a 1st cycle programme in Architecture); - those who have a school, scientific or professional background, certifying their capacity to carry out a MSc for which they apply.
