The award-winning project falls within the scope of COVID-19 – and, particularly, regarding the protection of the skin of health professionals, subject to various aggressions caused by prolonged use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – proposing “the development of a semi-solid topical formulation” for skin protection and injury prevention.
The study was developed by a multidisciplinary team, in the areas of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Technology, which includes professors and researchers of FFUL/Research Institute for Medicines (iMed.ULisboa) (Andreia Rosatella, António Almeida, Carlos Afonso, Helena Margarida Ribeiro, Joana Marto), specialists of the Technical and Pharmaceutical Management Service of the North Lisbon Hospital Centre, Santa Maria Hospital (Filipa Cosme Silva and João Paulo Cruz) and of PhD Trials (Pedro Pinto).
The results obtained led to the conclusion that “COVerskin-D is a feasible, safe and low-cost alternative”, and its implementation in national hospitals is planned.
